If the correct base preparation and compaction is achieved, pavers are less likely to move or sink.
A silicon or cement based grout between the joints, such as Pave-Lok® will also reduce the risk of movement, as will the pattern you choose to lay your pavers.
In areas where the soil is highly reactive you may experience some small movement and we would recommend removing at least 200mm of soil/clay before compacting quarry rubble and quarry sand as the base.
Paving can be simply lifted and re-laid, concrete by contrast will crack and there is no cost effective way to repair it.

Weeds can be eliminated by using a silicon or cement based grout such as Pave-Lok between the joints, not allowing seeds to dig and germinate, while also locking the pavers together, reducing the risk of pavers cracking.
Killing all weeds before removing 100mm to 200mm of soil and replacing with quarry rubble and quarry sand for the new base the pavers will be laid on will also reduce any weeds coming through.
It’s also important to maintain a weed free garden and poison or remove weeds before they flower and spread.
Generally, a good quality clay paver will last forever and enhances the natural earthy tones of the environment. However, there are some good quality concrete pavers on the market which are becoming increasingly popular; especially if a large format paver is desired around a pool for example.
Concrete pavers are the cheapest pavers available and come in a wide variety of colours, sizes and thicknesses.

An interlocking pattern such as 90° or 45° herringbone is the strongest paving pattern to lay for driveways.
Finished with a silicone or cement based grout such as Pave-Lok will reduce the chance of pavers cracking under the pressure of tyres turning.
Another popular paving pattern used for driveways is stretcher bond. Patterns such as stack bond should only be considered if there is a concrete plinth, beam or reinforced edging to eliminate the chance of your pavers moving as vehicles turn their wheels.
Concrete sleeper retaining walls are by far the strongest, most decorative way to retain on a boundary and a fence can be easily attached to the top of the wall, increasing privacy to your property.
A concrete plinth is often used when the wall will not be seen.
Each area of your garden is unique and the best plants to use will depend on the environment created by our licensed landscapers.
The main rule of thumb is knowing what parts of the day the garden is in full Sun, if any. Once this is determined our professional landscapers can then recommend choices that will thrive and compliment the outdoor environment you want created.
Low maintenance gardens are extremely popular in Adelaide, so choosing plants that don’t require regular pruning or a lot of water will be advantageous, unless you install an automatic irrigation system.
Visual Landscape Gardening welcome the opportunity to quote on any aspect of landscaping for residential homes and commercial businesses across Adelaide.
Generally we don’t use contractors. All of our staff are employees, who are covered under work cover, public liability and company policies and procedures.
Visual Landscape Gardening have a number of other licensed trades we use and project manage for the jobs we are not licensed to perform. These trades adhere to our policies and procedures and are licensed, insured professionals.
We use the best possible materials on the market with a preference to Adelaide, South Australian manufactured products where possible. Many landscaping companies are using imported materials that are cheaper but don’t last.
We have frequently been called out to repair or replace materials that have failed, replacing them with a better quality product.
This also goes to our motto of:
Do it right the first time
We’re happy to look at any comparative quote, however in our experience, cheaper quotes generally means using cheaper materials, using unlicensed and uninsured individuals who pay their employees ‘cash in hand’.
Our company policy is never to compromise on quality, safety and the integrity of our professional landscaping company because our reputation is so important to us.
